Iowa Wild Rose Award Winner
Carol Gorman

Carol Gorman, a native Iowan, is the author of many elementary grade/middle school novels. Her middle grade novel, Dork in Disguise, was nominated for ten state choice awards (winner in five of those) and her sequels are very popular.   Two more Dork books followed.  Stumptown Kid is a sports-mystery novel set Iowa in the 1950s and involves prejudices during that period of time.  It has been named to nine state lists.  The idea for her novel, Games: A Tale of Two Bullies, originated during a visit to an Iowa school.  Carol and her husband (and fellow writer) Ed Gorman live and write in Cedar Rapids, IA.
The award was presented at the award dinner on May 7th, 2010.
(The wild rose was named the state flower on this date in 1897).
